With summer coming, homeowners will be taking a look at their roofs and deciding it’s time for a new one. Once that’s decided, it’s time to take a look at roofing materials and pick the best one for your house.
The majority of homeowners will choose some variation of an asphalt composition shingle. Many people find the selection and price to be the most accommodating.
The three-tab style shingle is a widely used style. For enhanced curb appeal, longer life and perhaps a higher impact rating, check out an architectural-style shingle. These have a three-dimensional appearance.
Other materials to consider range from rolled composition to concrete tiles. Wood shingles/wood shake, metal, concrete and clay tiles also are options.
As with any product that is installed on a home, it is crucial to determine what kind of maintenance your roofing choice will require. A wood shingle, for example, may require semi-annual inspections and maintenance repairs. Some materials may even reduce or alter the price for homeowner’s insurance — be sure to check with your agent.
