Now that the sun has finally reappeared and trees and plants are blooming, we’re getting spring fever. A great way to start your spring maintenance program is to inspect your deck to make sure it’s safe for your summer parties.
AmeriSpec Omaha and Lincoln inspector Aaron Nilius has some tips on what to look for during your safety check:
- Support posts and beams should be secured by clips, bolts, and/or metal fasteners.
- Make sure beams are directly in place over a post so they will provide proper support for the deck joists.
- Your house should be connected to the deck through a ledger board. Ideally, this should be bolted to the house and deck to prevent separation.
- Look at wooden deck boards to see if they need to be painted or stained. If they’ve deteriorated, they could be a tripping hazard.
If you have any questions or concerns about your deck, please call us at 402-393-3696 in Omaha or 402-483-2010 in Lincoln.
