Drain sprinkler system, disconnect hoses to prepare for winter

If not properly protected, a hose bib can freeze and burst in winter, causing serious damage.Prepare your sprinkler system for winter by draining the lines and shutting down the water supply to the system. If water is trapped in the supply lines to the backflow preventer, the water could freeze and cause the pipes to split, or worse, burst. This could cause thousands of dollars in damage to the interior and exterior of your home.

A qualified contractor should be contacted for winterizing your sprinkler system.  This ensures that system will be ready to work properly in the spring.

Hoses should also be disconnected from the attachment at the exterior of the home called the hose bib. If water is in the hose it could freeze and expand into the hose bib, which could cause the supply line inside the home to split or burst. This also could cause thousand of dollars in damage.

A little preventative maintenance can go a long way in saving needless and expensive repairs.
