Our certification standards

AmeriSpec Omaha and Lincoln’s certification standards require our inspectors to be certified the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI). All inspectors are also state licensed for radon testing. These certifications enhance the experience our inspectors bring to your home inspection.

Required membership examinations for ASHI certification are nationally recognized as the standard for home inspection. ASHI standards for certification are more stringent than other home inspection organizations.

New home inspector members join ASHI as Associates and must pass the National Home Inspector’s Examination, which is administered by the Examination Board of Professional Home Inspectors (EBPHI). This independent, not-for-profit organization establishes the standard of competence for the home inspection profession.

The four-part exam covers inspection methods, reporting, professional practice and building systems. This includes exterior systems, structural systems, roofing systems, electrical systems, heating and cooling systems, insulating and ventilating systems, plumbing systems, interior systems, and fireplace and chimney systems.

In addition, ASHI Associate members who want to become Certified Inspectors must:

  • Complete the ASHI Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics education module.
  • Undergo an inspection report verification process.
  • Conduct 250 paid home inspections.

To remain active in the organization, all members must complete a minimum of 20 hours of continuing education each year.

In April 2010, ASHI was approved by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) as a recognized accrediting association for its Certified Inspector Program.  ASHI is now the only accredited home inspection association whose full members have completed a recognized third-party certification process.

“The accreditation and certification of ASHI’s processes by a recognized third party is an affirmation of the status we hold in the home inspection profession,” Jeff Arnold, ASHI’s executive director, said in a press release.  “Our members are recognized as leaders in home inspection by those in and out of the profession and by government entities.  And achieving certification further validates ASHI member qualifications and professional competence.”

By requiring our inspectors to meet the highest industry standards, AmeriSpec Omaha and Lincoln can provide the highest quality service. We look forward to continuing to enhance our qualifications so we can serve you in the best way possible, every time you call.
